Who am I?

I'll keep this one rather brief: My name is Mathilda Crompton, and I live in Mid-West Wales. I am 13. My favourite animal isn't the fish, but I care deeply about how people see them. I don't want everyone referring to fish as a "resource" or a "stock". We live alongside all the animals on Earth, and, let's face it, we haven't done a very good job of keeping them thriving...

I go to school near the sea, and have the most beautiful coastal bus journey there. Now and again, I see dolphins far out at sea, and fish jumping, and I want to be able to see that all the time. In the two years I have been travelling this route, I have noticed less and less activity in the ocean. Soon, there will be no fish whatsoever. Is there a beach you love to go to, or a walk you love to take along the coast? Do you sometimes see water animals creating ripples in the surface of the water? Let's protect those fish together!

But it doesn't have to be like that! Fish can be food, but they can also be beautiful. Loads of people, including myself, are vegan or vegetarian, but that doesn't mean we all have to be! Yes, it is good for the environment not to eat meat, and I would urge you not to, but it doesn't have to be that complicated at all. Think of fish as alive, and ban scallop dredgers in Cardigan Bay. That is my goal. Are you with me in this?
